The National Bowel Cancer Coalition (of which Let’s Beat Bowel Cancer is a member) is committed to reducing the number of people affected by bowel cancer – Australia’s second biggest cancer killer – and improving the lives of patients with this disease.

Bowel Cancer Australia
Bowel Cancer Australia and Let’s Beat Bowel Cancer are working together to raise awareness of Australia’s second biggest cancer killer. Bowel Cancer Australia is a national charity with a mission to decrease the impact of bowel cancer and gastrointestinal diseases in our society through awareness, education, support and research.

Cancer Council – “Get behind bowel screening” campaign
This Cancer Council campaign aims to build community support for the full implementation of the Australian Government’s National Bowel Cancer Screening Program by 2012. Their advocacy campaign aims to make the wider community more aware of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program’s potential to save Australian lives, if fully implemented. They hope to engage the community to send a message to the Government that full implementation of the program should be a high priority on the public health agenda.

Cancer Council Australia
This peak national non-government organisation advises the Australian Government and other bodies on practices and policies to help prevent, detect and treat cancer as well as supportive care.

Cancer support programs
Providing support for cancer patients, people living with cancer, their families and carers is a key activity of a variety of cancer support groups around Australia.

Foundation 49
A men’s health awareness campaign dedicated to improving the health status of Australian men across each decade of life.

National Bowel Cancer Screening Program
As part of a national initiative, the Australian Government are sending out free bowel screening test kits to people as they turn 50 , 55 and 65 between January 2011 and December 2014.

The free kit provided by the Government should arrive in the mail around the date of your birthday. People who have received a free screening test kit from the Australian Government are encouraged to participate in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.  For more information regarding the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program please call 1800 118 868.

People who do not receive a free bowel screening test kit as part of the Australian Government National Bowel Cancer Screening Program may still undergo annual screening by purchasing a bowel screening test.
